The most common thing to build with your industry is ships. You can choose to build I-Ships or P-Ships, or you can build ships onto any of the fleets at the world.
It costs one metal to build each ship.
If you are building ships onto fleets, be sure that you already own the fleet key before building onto it. If someone else owns the fleet, or the fleet key is unowned, you will be giving away the ships.
