New installation problems

A place for general chatter about games in progress, games completed, strategy advice, bug reports, or really anything at all that relates in some vague way to RSW.

New installation problems

Post by esoteric »

I've installed RSW onto a newly formatted/clean W2k machine with all its updates installed. The install completed without error, but when RSW tries to start it indicates that MSVCP71.dll cannot be located. Indeed, the DLL is not on the computer anywhere.

Wow, I wonder how long that file has been missing and we never noticed? It's not part of the OS, but it's commonly distributed with third-party software and many programs may install it directly into your windows/system directory, so if you have ever installed a program that does this, you'll never notice that RSW doesn't provide a copy.

Well, I've just fixed the problem by including that DLL with the distribution. I've prepared a new distribution that includes it. I haven't bumped the version number, since there's no new code involved, and there's no reason to force everyone to download a new client. But you can download it here:

That's better, but now it's looking for gdiplus.dll :-)
