Game started with no fleet keys at my HW. Kind of makes it difficult to play.

proxy8o started 02 Oct 2011, now at turn 1.
Game type Advanced.
Runs every 1 weeks at Saturday 12:00 AM CEST, or when all players have submitted orders.
3 players with 4 total positions.
Uses the provisional map set "treasure".
The game map will be revealed to players.
Game will end when one player remains.
This is a specialty game.
This is a no-communication game.
Initial galaxy parameters specified:
Number of fleets = -5 (Absurdly low)
Number of artifacts = -5 (Absurdly low)
Number of black holes = 5 (Absurdly high)
Advanced game parameter overrides:
Num bronze fleets = 1
Bronze metal = 25
Bronze mines = 5
Num silver fleets = 2
Silver metal = 50
Silver mines = 10
Num gold fleets = 3
Gold metal = 100
Gold mines = 20
Num gold artifacts = 0
Num homeworld fleets = 24
Num homeworld fleet ships = 1
Abandoned player turns = 1
Homeworld metal = 80
Can own zero population = True
Chiara, Skip Tracer, score = 0. Last turn played was 0; has missed 0 turns total.
Withdrawn at turn 1 by BongoBob: "Turn 1 and I have zero fleets. Oops."
I have all 24 fleets at my HW.

Here's my Turn 1 report (starting conditions clipped out). Notice the complete lack of fleets:
Game proxy8o, Turn 1, [BelkarBitterleaf] RSW Advanced
This game uses the map verne4hw.
[BelkarBitterleaf]: Skip Tracer
Worlds: 1
Industry: 40
Mines: 4
People: 50
------------
World 27:[BelkarBitterleaf]
Connections: W2, W10
Homeworld for: [BelkarBitterleaf]
Industry: 40
Population / Limit: 50 / 100
Metal, Mines: 80, 4
I-Ships: 1
P-Ships: 1
Turns Owned: 1
And that is it. No fleets. Notice how as a Skip Tracer I should have automatically probed worlds W2 and W10? Didn't happen as I have no fleets, so no probes.

Screen-grab. Notice the "0 fleets here", nothing under "Fleet List".

Hmm, I wonder if the game ran out of fleets in the galaxy before it could assign any to your homeworld? The galaxy does specify an "Absurdly low" number of fleets overall.
Of course, that's a bug in the server; it should meet the homeworld requirements before it tries to satisfy the number of fleets total. I'll look into fixing that.

No, this isn´t implemented yet.
It works from turn 2 on.
But please note, as Skip Tracer you get reports from the worlds next to your worlds and NOT from the worlds adjacent to your fleets.

Drwr, thanks for looking into it.
Also note the specifications for fleets at gold/silver/bronze worlds. They may not have the right numbers either, depending on how fleets were distributed.
Mitch, my bad. Sorry about the other "treasure" map game but with the initial parameters you set and your choice of character, no matter what I did or which character type I initially picked, you would have won. Turn 2 you would have had 2 bronze worlds and 6 fleets to my 0 and 2 (total 18 industry vs. my 08), and by turn 3 I expect you had 2 bronze/4 silver/1 gold worlds and 20+ fleets to my 1/0/0 and 4 (total ~90 industry vs. my 13). In 2 more turns you would have been able to arrive at my HW with 4+ times the ships and 5+times the fleets as I had. To be honest, I suspected as much when I signed up, but didn't realize how unbalanced it would turn out to be. Which brings me to...
Drwr, is there a way to "test-drive" a given game or map you make before it going "live"?
-BB
P.S. Sorry Mitch I was (uncharacteristically) rude, won't happen again.

In what way would a "test drive" be different from actually playing the game? You can, of course, play a single-player game by yourself to check out the game mechanics (possibly with a multi-position game if you want to see multiple positions at once). Or, you can invite one or more trusted friends to join you in a private game.

Don´t always expect the worst intentions.
It allows inferences to your own way of thinking...
I simply wasn´t aware of the circumstance that Skip Tracer was then blocked for my opponent.
Sorry.

Drwr,
didn't know about the single-player multiple positions possibility, thanks for tweaking me to it. I set up a game to mimic proxy8o (called savage4d), except single player with 4 positions. Player 1 gets 24 fleets, player 2 gets 4 fleets, players 3+4 get zero fleets.
Mitch,
I don't think proxy8o is going to go very far. Time for a do-over with a higher fleet-limit?

MiTCH,
have run single-player multi-position setups with your starting parameters. Until bug-fix, you need
Number of fleets = 3 to have just enough to give each of the 4 HWs 24 keys each, and
Number of fleets = 4 to have enough for the 4 HWs and some left over for treasure worlds (and possibly some others scattered here and there).
DRWR,
are the actual value ranges for e.g. Number of fleets = 3 available anywhere? Couldn't find them in the Help section.

RSW version 1.0.6.2 (which I have just released) includes the fix to games like proxy8o. Sorry for the troubles.
are the actual value ranges for e.g. Number of fleets = 3 available anywhere?
They change from time to time, but for now the numbers look like this:
Code: Select all
# The number of worlds in the galaxy, per player.
NumWorlds = {
-5: (8, 9),
-4: (10, 12),
-3: (12, 13),
-2: (13, 14),
-1: (14, 16),
0 : (16, 18),
1 : (18, 20),
2 : (20, 22),
3 : (22, 24),
4 : (24, 26),
5 : (32, 35),
}
# The number of fleets per player.
NumFleets = {
-5: (5, 8),
-4: (8, 10),
-3: (10, 12),
-2: (12, 14),
-1: (14, 16),
0 : (16, 18),
1 : (18, 21),
2 : (21, 24),
3 : (24, 27),
4 : (27, 30),
5 : (32, 35),
}
# The number of artifacts per each 15 players.
NumArtifacts = {
-5: (0, 20),
-4: (20, 60),
-3: (60, 80),
-2: (80, 90),
-1: (90, 95),
0 : (100, 100),
1 : (105, 110),
2 : (110, 120),
3 : (120, 140),
4 : (140, 180),
5 : (200, 250),
}
# The secret end-of-game target score.
EndOfGameScore = {
-5: (2000, 3000),
-4: (4500, 5500),
-3: (5500, 6000),
-2: (6000, 6500),
-1: (6500, 7000),
0 : (7000, 8000),
1 : (8000, 9000),
2 : (9000, 10000),
3 : (10000, 11000),
4 : (12000, 15000),
5 : (20000, 40000),
}
Each line is of the form
setting: (minValue, maxValue)
where "setting" is the numeric setting value you see on the game description, and "minValue" and "maxValue" represent the range of possible values given that setting.
