World/Fleet count

The Starweb rules state that a standard Starweb game has 15 players, 255 worlds, and 255 fleet keys, making 17 worlds and fleets per player. As I understand it, RSW scales the number of worlds and fleets based on the number of players in the game. For instance, in a 6 player game, I would expect 6*1...

It does still seem to be broken. A turn had completed, so I saw a progress bar go for a second before it crashed. I just renamed my RSW Application Data folder to force it to redownload everything, and now it's working. So I guess one of my data files got corrupted. If I get a chance, I'll try to fi...

Well, the client works on my home computer. Not sure if there's really a difference or the problem went away altogether. I'm definitely running the same version in both places.

Don't know if this is related, but currently my RSW client crashes as soon as I try to log in. More clearly, I: start the client type in my password to log in click OK see my games show up in the list with Status of "Checking Server" after several seconds, all windows disappear and the pro...

I had to log in to the new server, since all my cookies were invalid. While doing so, it became apparent that my username is now case-sensitive. But I'm required to enter it in all lower case rather than the case that I created it with. Not a big deal, but seems like it should be one or the other. T...

To the larger question of establishing formal rules of etiquette beyond what is or is not allowed in the game rules, I think this is a dangerous territory. If we assert that it is inappropriate to do a certain thing, a thing which if done anyway results in a greater chance of victory, then we are j...

Etiquette

There was an interesting conversation about RSW/Starweb etiquette in the Schell Games office today. Specifically at issue was whether communicating outside of game (especially with someone that you have not yet met in the game) is bad etiquette, immoral, or even against the rules or not. I can see h...

Ahh, I see. I thought you meant that you would see each player's score only once, on the turn that your first met them.

This makes much more sense.

Whoa, you're not supposed to be able to keep track of other people's scores?

Why the departure from traditional Starweb?

Re: RSW version 0.92

* Game window size and splitter positions will be remembered across sessions. This doesn't seem to work quite right for me. The window is "maximized", but the wrong size (714x544 instead of 1280x994). I can double click the title bar to unmaximize the window (stays the same size), then do...

Minor confusion: In game summaries on the web site, when there is a small amount of time until the next turn, the "Next turn" text can be confusing since the time of the next turn is given as HH:MM, but the time left is given as MM:SS. For instance, at first glance, "Next turn is due ...

I would expect scores in general be closer to 7500 now.

Are the weights selected using a bell curve as well? Do I understand it right that each point of EndOfGameScore weight increases the number of samples per pull? Like this: For each of the five pulls: if weight == -3: sample 4, use min if weight == -2: sample 3, use min if weight == -1: sample 2, use...

What's algorithm is used to pick the target score? The manual says that scores generally fall between 6,000 and 10,000, so I was a little surprised to see the EndOfGameScore weight of 0, and the target score of 6,400.

It was mostly just a lot of pounding on each other, turn after turn, and then a miffed attempt by Zaaz and FishSpeaker to collect the unowned fleet keys. If I had it to do over again, I would have sent as much force as possible as quickly as possible, instead of just sending as much as I thought wou...
