Though I called this a major version release (0.98.4 instead of 0.98.3.x), it's really mostly got bugfixes--in particular, it (hopefully) fixes a frustrating hard crash. Please let me know if your client still crashes suddenly, with no crash log, after this update.
Version 0.98.4:

* Fixed an occasional hard crash.

* Added "distance to unowned" world column and map option to Core
game.

* I,P-Ships and D-Ships forecast values will now appear in world
popup lists.

* Server: reduced the likelihood of generating maps with very few
connections per world.

* Fixed export window to show solid green background, not the
background image.

* Fixed exception when clicking to the right of the table columns
in the OSX version.

* Fixed world detail panel to show "Convert Deaths" only when
nonzero.

* The client's game list will show "Not your game" or "Cancelled"
when you withdraw from a particular game.

The inevitable bugfix release. Normally I'd wait a few days, but I got flooded with bug reports this morning, so here ya go:

Another hard crash found and squashed in this bugfix release. This particular crash seemed to impact some people more than others, for some reason; but it should be all better now.
Version 0.98.4.2:

* Fixed an occasional hard crash on Windows.

* Fixed a few more client exceptions.

* Fixed tendency of drag-n-drop to introduce reflexive world
routing, e.g. W1 -> W2 -> W1 -> W3 instead of W1 -> W3.

* Fixed "Checking server" notification at client startup.

* Fixed display of end-of-game turn news.

* Server: turn 1 is now treated as a special case with respect to
missed turns. All players must enter turn 1 orders for the game
to proceed. Any players who fail to enter their turn 1 orders by
the deadline will be automatically dropped from the game, and a
correspondingly smaller galaxy will be regenerated, without
impacting the other players' orders at all. If delinquent players
cannot be dropped (for instance, because this would take the game
below its required minimum number of players), then the players
will immediately be declared abandoned and made available for
takeover, and turn 1 will be held until the next turn cycle.

Several more bugfix releases have been tacked on. The 0.98.4 branch is looking pretty stable by now. If you haven't upgraded yet, what's holding you back?
Version 0.98.4.5:

* Fixed an exception when saving the turn for certain users.

* Server: better map generation tuning.

* Server: fixed an exception when downloading the end-of-game
omniscient view.

Version 0.98.4.4:

* Fixed an exception on initial download for certain users.

Version 0.98.4.3:

* Fixed a minor client exception after closing a game window.

* Fixed a bug in which the client sometimes reports a
newly-taken-over game is "Not your game".

* Fixed a bug in which the drop-robot attack wasn't depleting
ships from the attacking fleet!

* Server: don't send abandoned-position announcements for players
that were abandoned on the last turn of the game.
