create standalone maps?

A place for general chatter about games in progress, games completed, strategy advice, bug reports, or really anything at all that relates in some vague way to RSW.

create standalone maps?

Post by constella »

I like the regular map that gets auto-updated from the server per game.

I'd like to create separate maps for different purposes. Maybe just my area. or other selected worlds.

Can I create a new/separate standalone map from an xml file?

And... so I don't bug the forum with every question, is there help/documentaion for the RSW Client? There is a lot under the Help menu, but it seems more about how to play the game. Not so much about the client.

Or is there a way to not auto-scale the entire map to one 8.5"x11" page?

It's my fault. My empire is too large. With the autoscale map, worlds and fleets are too small to see.

Here is my current procedure. I'm just wondering if anything can be streamlined.

In the client, Print Map to SVG.
Open SVG in browser.
Zoom and scroll to area of interest.
Screenshot just the portion of the map I want.
Print the screenshot.

export selected & fudge name

I think I'm getting closser.

1) select worlds I'd like for a separate map
2) export, selected worlds only
3) change the gameId in the file
4) File/Import, in the RSW Client Game List window
5) print fit-to-page map
6) celebrate 🎉

Thanks ducks! That worked pretty well.

refinement: keep each map section "game" going so you can import later turns as updates. So you don't need to do as much map organization. And reorganize the primary map a bit to facilitate future sector selections.

This does seem like a giant hack around a missing interface. I'm glad you've got a working solution, though! I'll add the requested interface to my TODO list for some unspecified time in the future.
