World ownership

Post by Askesemann »

Hi there,

I'm just playing my first game of RSW Classic. In a battle at one of my worlds the world went neutral after its I- and P-ships were destroyed, although I still had lots of regular fleets there. This baffled me, because the rules say

"if two different players bring their fleets to a world at the same time, then ownership of the world does not change. If the world was previously owned by anyone, it will remain owned by that player."

http://rswgame.com/en/help/capture.htm

(That player would be me, in this case.)

"these [I- or P-]ships can defend your ownership of the world, without having to dedicate a valuable fleet key to that task."

http://rswgame.com/en/help/home_fleets.htm

Doesn't that mean that a regular fleet is also good for keeping ownership of a world? Or do only I- and P-ships count? If the second is true, shouldn't the rules be a bit clearer about this?

Thanks!

My apologies for the misleading rules. It is true that the presence of any I-Ships, P-Ships, or orbiting fleet is normally sufficient to retain ownership of the world. Regular fleets are just as good at this as home fleets.

However, you no doubt lost your world due to this event, from http://rswgame.com/en/help/air_to_ground.htm:
"Finally, you may fire an orbiting fleet at home fleets, which is to say, at I-Ships and P-Ships. If you do this, you will first destroy any I-Ships, and then destroy P-Ships, and then if you have fired at least two more shots than necessary to destroy all I-Ships and P-Ships, the world will become neutral (but no damage will be done to actual industry or population). The world will remain neutral--unowned by any player--until there is only one player remaining with ships at the world, according to the standard capture rules."

That is to say, it was more than just the loss of the I-Ships and P-Ships. An opponent fired at home fleets with at least two shots more than necessary to destroy all of the planet-bound ships; and these extra two shots forced the world neutral, despite the presence of your orbiting fleets.

I will add a note to the capture.htm page advising about this possibility.

Ah! Yes, I missed that. Such a note would be very good!
