Re: Server down?
I've just made a quick workaround, by moving the completed game clover6d to "archived" state. I believe something about this completed game in the database was triggering a deadlock somewhere. Does that seem to clear up responsiveness for everyone?

Re: Server down?
Sorry, I'm having some technical problems with the server, unfortunately I haven't been able to track it down yet. Hope to get this fixed as soon as possible.

Re: Mac client not starting
Ah, my apologies. I see the problem; it appears that it is necessary for you to first install wxPython; the needed wxPython libraries aren't included as part of the distributable, and that's my error. You should be able to download one of the Mac installers for wxPython, for instance this one: http:...

Re: Blitz game
I've played 10-minute games before. It's quite thrilling, and the game is over in a couple of hours. Expect to make poor decisions, because in 10 minutes you don't have time to make good ones. You can make a 1-2 hour turnaround work if you put limits on the time-of-day for turns, say name a four- or...

OK, no-communication games are reinstated. They're required to be members-only now.
Let the games continue!

Re: No-communication games
You underestimate people's ingenuity. RSW does have a random name generator; and furthermore it scrambles absolutely everything it can about the map (world numbers, fleet numbers, and the like). A player really has to go out of his or her way to even determine who the other players in the game are, ...

Re: No-communication games
I don't know. I like the idea of no-communication games in principle, but I don't think the underlying problem here has changed at all. It's not so much that people were cheating, it's that it can be impossible to *tell* whether people are cheating. And that makes other people suspicious, which I ha...

Re: Discrepancy in description of game guarded6q
If you can ask some of these players to post their consent on this thread, I'd accept that, and make the change. Especially sun-e, the game's creator. But note that the game, as currently specified, will run every Friday. That's once every 7 days. It will never run slower than this, and it could run...

Re: Discrepancy in description of game guarded6q
This is one of the options that is specified at the time the game is created. This particular game was created by sun-e, and he specified the game should run at this specific time each week. Of course it would have been an option to specify that it run every 7 days, but that's not what he did. There...

Re: Discrepancy in description of game guarded6q
guarded6q is set to run each Friday at 9:00 am PST, or when all players have submitted orders. This means that if turn 1 runs (say) on November 7, then turn 2 will be scheduled for November 14, which is 7 days later. Imagine that all of the players get their orders in a little bit ahead of that dead...

Re: reactor9h
That doesn't sound like a bug; that's always been a "feature" of the Jihad/Judgment scoring. Even in original SW, a player can declare Jihad/Judgment against his ally and then merrily score points by blowing away his ally's excess population. The only exception is you can't declare Judgmen...

Re: Client Map
That's the first report I've heard of this kind of problem, but it does sound nasty. I don't know what's going on, but maybe somehow the client database is corrupt and you should rebuild it? The easiest way to do this is to quit the client, then find the client database and delete or rename it out o...
