Re: New game type ideas

How about customizable ships? You start by deciding how large a hull you want to build (larger hulls being more expensive), and then outfit the ship with various pods such as engines, energy collectors, weaponry, shields, armour, sensors, cloaks, life support and cargo. More engines make your ship ...

Re: Dodging attacks

An extra tip: always leave at least one ship on each of your fleets. If you empty it completely, it will go neutral and you won't be able to use it on the next turn. If it has one ship and your opponent fires on the fleet that you moved most of your ships to, although you may have lost a lot of ship...

Re: New game type ideas

For instance, I was thinking about a game centered around interstellar commerce. Suppose there were five to ten different kinds of resources--ore, fuel, water, grain, electronics, industry, art, and so on--and each world produced certain kinds of resources, and demanded other kinds. Primitive world...

Re: morocco2y

Also, I noticed the new game (upscale9n). I would play, but I'm going to be out of the country and away from the internet for two weeks at the end of August, so that wouldn't be very responsible.

Re: morocco2y

This was also the first no-communication game that I've played, and I have to admit I kind of like the lower commitment level. Communication takes so much time and iteration. I also don't think that political interaction is completely absent. It's just a little more crude. Beyond the game parameters...

importing orders for yourself

I attempted to import orders for myself, and although the interface did not complain, the orders were never applied. To be clear, these are orders for my own character, which I have not created in the interface, but rather autogenerated using a script (creating transfer/attack orders when you have a...

Bug: download clean

I selected the "Re-download clean" option from my only active game. After doing so, the game window disappeared and only the "RSW Game List" window was left. The RSW Game List window content pane was completely white, however. I could select and move the window around (did not ge...

disconnected bug

Occasionally, when I'm on wireless or have an otherwise flakey connection, I may get the following error: "Could not connect to RSW Server. Would you like to switch to offline mode?" Normally this is no big deal. I'll try to get my connection back and then pick up wherever I left off and c...

I had been considering it. It's pretty tedious to arrange the map after a big import or, of course, at the end of the game. It can even be a pain when you happen across a connection between distant worlds or a nasty intersection. I think the hard part would be finding the right balance between givin...

This is when I start contemplating the options of doing a lot of clicking and dragging or writing some code. The clicking and dragging probably would be faster, but the code can be used forever...

Congratulations to Chris Rodriguez for taking the win on an amazingly early turn 13!

Good game and I'm proud to say a strong showing for Schell Games. Now it's time to play Planarity with my map.

planar graph?

Is every RSW map a planar graph? I assume so, but one of my maps is being difficult.

Actually, what I'd really like to see is stable sorting: if I click on metal, and then by owner, I'd like to see the worlds sorted by owner, and within worlds owned by the same person, I'd like to see them still sorted by metal. Presently that doesn't happen, and it's actually a bit tricky to fix i...

This version has been crashing too. Usually during an import as I go back through my old messages reimporting other players' exports. As of the last turn in circles5h, the client is crashing at the end of downloading the (circles5h) turn data. This happens even if I delete the ApplicationData\RSW di...

Interesting. Do the number of worlds always match the number of fleets? Also, I wonder whether it may be interesting to have a game option that allows people to see the game biases (perhaps excluding the final target score) as soon as the game begins. I can see how it's fun to discover that as the g...
